PDAXScope: BTC hits $70K, ETH jumps, HYPE rallies

August 20, 2026

Bitcoin briefly hits $70,000 for the first time since June. Here is why (CoinDesk)

Bitcoin briefly climbed to US $70,000 for the first time in 11 weeks, rising more than 7% in 24 hours, as reported by CoinDesk. Bitcoin also broke above a key technical level near US $66,600, possibly opening the door to around US $76,000, although inflation concerns and the possibility of higher interest rates remain risks for further gains. The rally was fueled by U.S. Treasury bond buybacks and a renewed optimism for a September Senate vote on the CLARITY act.

Ethereum Price Forecast: ETH jumps 18%, sparks over $1 billion in liquidations (FXStreet)

Ethereum (ETH) jumped nearly 18% to around US $2,250, triggering more than US $1.11 billion in liquidations, mostly from traders betting that ETH would fall, as reported by FXStreet. The rally followed improved market sentiment after the U.S. Treasury doubled its long-term bond buybacks and President Trump made supportive remarks on crypto. After such a sharp move, ETH could face resistance around US $2,300–$2,431.

HYPE jumps 11% as Trump says CFTC is working to bring Hyperliquid to U.S. (CoinDesk)

HYPE jumped about 11% after U.S. President Donald Trump said CFTC Chair Mike Selig is working on a legal and compliant path to bring Hyperliquid into the U.S., as reported by CoinDesk. A U.S. launch could give the platform access to the regulated American derivatives market, where interest in these products has been growing. Trump did not explain what a U.S. version of Hyperliquid would look like or what approvals it would need, and his comments do not mean the platform has already been approved by the CFTC.
